Madison's Landis, PV's Harvey qualify for state

AUSTINTOWN — Nolan Landis is headed to the Ohio High School Athletic Association state track and field tournament next weekend in at least one event.

The Madison senior won the Division I discus during the Austintown Fitch regional on Wednesday night.

Landis hurled a best of 195-06 to win by nearly 10 feet over Brecksville senior Tanner Watson.

The top four in each event qualify for the state tournament May 31-June 1 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Landis finished in the discus last season at state.

He has a chance to qualify for the state in the shot on Friday.

Geneva sophomore Charlie Taylor placed eighth with a 145-4.

In running finals, the Geneva girls 4X800 relay team of Taylor Cupp, Renee Tetlow, Leah Costello and Elizabeth Joy took ninth in a time of 9:45.08. Chardon posted fourth in a time of 9:22.76.

The Eagles boys 4X800 relay team also notched ninth in a time of 8:16.41. That quartet included Alex Reese, Thomas Costello, Jacob Mirabell and Forrest Long.

Massillon Jackson finished fourth in a time of 8:00.77.

On Wednesday, finals were contested in boys and girls 4X800 relays, boys discus, long jump and pole vault and girls shot put and high jump. There were also preliminary running events.

Division III

MASSILLON — Pymatuning Valley's Jenna Harvey advanced to the state tournament on Wednesday in the high jump.

The sophomore placed fourth at 5-foot, 1-inches.

Badger senior Kiersten Tricker finished first at 5-5.25, followed by sophomore teammate Suzanne Shaffer at 5-2 and Louisville junior Cara Forbes.

In the shot put final, Grand Valley sophomore Madison Roskos claimed ninth at 34-11.50. Liberty junior Alyssa Wilson picked up the fourth spot at 36-3.
