NEWBURY TOWNSHIP — The Edgewood Warriors captured the Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division tournament title at Punderson Golf Course on Monday.

The Warriors, led by Kaci Kanicki, scored a 409 for first place.

“I am so proud of all the girls,” Edgewood coach Christina Fischer said. “Throughout the entire season they showed continual improvement. They set their goals throughout the season and put the work in to achieve them.”

Perry took second with a 426, followed by Geneva at 435, Lakeside at 481 and West Geauga at 515.

In the regular season, Geneva and Perry won the first meetings over Edgewood, but the Warriors captured victories the second time around over both teams.

“We have good chemistry and an environment of friendly competition, which pushes all of us,” Fischer said. “Plus other teams in the league push us to be better. Still more season to go and other goals to work for, but so happy for them.”

Kanicki, a sophomore, earned medalist honors with a 90 over 18 holes. She recorded sides of 46 and 44.

“She’s such a mature player for a young person,” Fischer said. “The last few weeks she has found her stride.

“She is a student of the game and puts outside time in to work on getting better. Her attitude is her best attribute as she takes one shot a time and always looks ahead.”

Also for Edgewood, Jenna Wolfe fired a 97, Madison Irish at 110 and Taylor Racut a 112.

Nia Gribbons and Corinne Dushney both shot a 102 for Geneva.

Abby Tagle had a 114, while Isabella Aparicio posted a 117. Hannah Berg and Halle Van Devander rounded out the Eagles scoring with 118 and 122, respectively.

“Our girls struggled off the tee box, but stayed positive and had a decent day with their short game,” Eagles coach Randy Ankrom said. “Hats off to coach Fischer and the Edgewood girls. They put in a solid team round with Kaci Kanicki and Jenna Wolfe scoring in the 90s. They played really well, a well-deserved win.”

Tayler Wilber paced the Dragons with a 109.

Hannah Mathias notched a 114, followed by Marissa Calabris at 125, Katelyn Grim 133 and Amber Baldwin 143.
