SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — An Ashtabula man has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Saybrook Township late Tuesday night.
Sheriff's deputies were called to a house on Dunbar Avenue at 11:14 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Department. When they arrived, they found a man who had been stabbed lying unresponsive in a bathtub, according to the statement.
Paul Ruffo, 56, was involved in an altercation with another man in the front yard of Ruffo's residence, said Tom Despenes, an investigator with the Ashtabula County Coroner's Office. Ruffo was stabbed once during the altercation, Despenes said.
Ruffo was pronounced dead at 11:29 p.m. on Tuesday night, Despenes said.
The suspect fled the scene and was apprehended by Sheriff's Deputies shortly after the incident, according to the Sheriff's Department. He was taken into custody without incident.
John Raymond Rose has been charged with Ruffo's murder.
Rose, 50, of Ashtabula, was arraigned at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning in Ashtabula Municipal Court. Rose was charged with one count of murder, according to court records. He did not enter a plea at the arraignment.
Bond was set at $250,000, cash, surety, or property, according to the Ashtabula Municipal Court. Rose is currently in custody at the Ashtabula County Jail.
A preliminary hearing in this case is scheduled for 11 a.m. on June 9, according to Ashtabula Municipal Court records.
The case is still under investigation, according to the Sheriff's Office.
