Paying a visit to the variety store...

Spartan stuff I

A name that has been synonymous with Ashtabula County high school for more than decades is, apparently, throwing his hat back in the ring.

Ken Parise, the former head coach at Pymatuning Valley and Conneaut, has applied to be head coach of the Spartans for a second time.

On Tuesday morning, we heard WWOW's interview by Pat Williams with Parise and the former Lakers and Spartans head coach said that he has reapplied for the head football job at Conneaut.

Bob Lundin, a teacher at Geneva High School, coached the Spartans last season.

Parise is a history teacher at Conneaut High School. He was a defensive assistant coach at Lake Catholic last season, where he was part of a Cougars squad that went 10-2 after a 9-1 regular season and reached the second round of the players.

The Cougars are coached by Mike Bell, one of Parise's former players from his days at PV.

The Conneaut board of education has a meeting scheduled for Thursday night and one of the items listed on the agenda is to approve supplemental contracts.

Spartan stuff II

While we're on the subject of Conneaut, here's another name to keep in mind in regards to the vacant varsity boys basketball coach at the high school - Jim Kennedy.

Change of plans

Turns out, the "retirement" from coaching high school varsity boys basketball didn't last long for Brad Ellis.

The Eagles coach, who resigned after seven seasons at the helm in March, has had a change of heart and will be coaching the Eagle boys in the 2006-07 season.
