Is reincarnation really true? It seems as though Sen. Joe McCarthy has been reincarnated in the minds of many around these parts. Sen. McCarthy set off the “Red Scare” back in the early 1950s that caused wide spread paranoia about the internal threat of communism in America.
To the present time this is a popular tactic used by politicians who want to discredit their opponents by calling them socialists or communist sympathizers. Using slanderous innuendos to create suspicion in the minds of those predisposed to paranoia or conspiracy theories works. If you don’t believe this read some of the letters appearing in the Star Beacon editorial page.
If you disagree with protesters, those who want to reform the criminal justice system, the Black Lives Matter movement, those wanting to remove historical statues, those wanting to to rename Army bases, those wanting equality, those wanting to eliminate racism, those who do not agree with your point of view, then don’t use unfounded labels to discredit them. Be honest enough to expose your own point of view by stating rational reasons for believing the way you do. Labeling someone a socialist, a communist, a fascist, an anarchist, or some other name does little to give a knowledgeable understanding of your use of these labels.
I blame myself for doing the same. I have referred to Donald Trump as having a narcissistic personality. I have failed to point out that this point of view is based on information found in the DSM-5 which characterizes one having a narcissistic personality disorder as having a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, requires excessive admiration, lacks empathy, has a grandiose sense of self-importance, exaggerates achievements, etc. Read the DSM-5 yourself page 669 ff. Read John Bolton’s book “The Room Where It Happened.” If you disagree with me don’t call me a name dispute my point of view.
