ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Verizon Wireless and Chipotle soon will be neighbors.
Verizon is leaving its space near the food court in Ashtabula Towne Square, and moving into the new building at 2911, N. Ridge E., where the former El Puente stood before being demolished last May. The new location is expected to open within the next two weeks.
Chipotle plans to open on Dec. 18, a spokesperson said Friday.
Verizon employees are excited about their move.
“The new space is about 2,100 square feet, compared to about 1,000 square feet where we are now,” said Randy Aponte, assistant Verizon store manager. “We don’t have a precise moving date yet, but it’ll definitely be in the next couple of weeks.”
Part of the appeal of the North Ridge Road (Route 20) location is that it is on a corner of a main thoroughfare with a red light.
“Rumors have been flying around about Chipotle for a long time,” said Bambi Paulchel, a member of the Ashtabula Township Board of Trustees. “I’m glad it finally came to fruition.”
Paulchel also said she believes the busy intersection will generate a lot of traffic for both businesses.
Township Trustee Steve McClure said Chipotle’s arrival could convince some larger chains to locate here, creating a snowball effect.
