GENEVA — Thick black bars separate Paul Brunelle-Apley from the rest of the world, but his list of trysts with underage girls is growing.

Another 15-year-old girl has come forward, claiming to have had a sexual relationship with registered sex offender Brunelle-Apley, 26, of 128 Wailele, Madison Township, who is being held in the Lake County Jail on eight charges of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, Madison Township Detective Dan Boerner said. The now-16-year-old girl is a student at Madison High School, as were Brunelle-Apley’s other two alleged victims. The girl was visiting a friend in Geneva when she met Brunelle-Apley in June. She claims to have had sex with him four times, Boerner said.

“The three girls have some common bond, a friendship or acquaintance with each other that doesn’t include Paul,” Boerner said. “Somehow, they have a connection both in this case and outside of it,” he said.

Brunelle-Apley was arrested a day after he delivered flowers and a teddy bear to a 14-year-old girl at Madison High School, Thursday. The gifts were meant as an apology for having cheated on the girl with a 15-year-old girl, police said.

Brunelle-Apley remains in jail after failing to post a $75,000 bond, Painesville Municipal Court records show.

Brunelle-Apley is charged with eight counts of unlawful sexual contact with two minor girls, Painesville Municipal Court records show. He may face up to four additional charges of unlawful sexual contact with a minor in Ashtabula County on behalf of the latest victim, Boerner said.

If Brunelle-Apley posts bond, it will be under the condition that he have no contact with any minors, court officials said.

Boerner said heterosexual sex offenders are often skilled in the emotional manipulation of teenage girls and will “romance” them with gifts and attention.

Brunelle-Apley has a criminal record in Ashtabula County dating from 2003 on similar sex-related offenses, including a 2003 conviction of unlawful sexual contact with a minor. He served nine months at Lake Erie Correctional Institution in Conneaut and was released in 2004, according to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) records.

He was living in Geneva at the time of the first offense, ODRC reports.

As part of his sentence, Brunelle-Apley also was placed on five years of probation supervised by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority office in Ashtabula.

Brunelle-Apley also has a case pending in Ashtabula County for cocaine possession, court records show.

The Ohio electronic sex offender database (www.esorn.ag.state.oh.us) lists 32 registered sex offenders living in the Madison Local School District. The offenders range in age from 21 to 79 years old.

Brunelle-Apley has a tribal art bird tattoo on his back, a half-sleeve tattoo on his left arm, a sun tattoo on his wrist, a dragon and skull tattoo on his right arm, and a dragon and bullet tattoo on his abdomen, ODRC records show.

Anyone having further information regarding Brunelle-Apley or any girls who have had contact with him, is asked to contact the Madison Township Police Department (440 428-2116).
