ORWELL — The search for a new village administrator continues. Council has advertised regarding the position, said Orwell Village Council President David Hartz.

Hartz said a candidate has been interviewed, but council wanted to see if there were more applicants that might be interested in the position. All candidates must have their information to the village office by Nov. 25 at 4 p.m.

“We will have the weekend to look at it,” Hartz said.

Former Orwell Village Administrator Joseph Varckette resigned from the position in late October. His last day was Nov. 11. Varckette was hired as the Geneva city manager and started work earlier this week.

Hartz said the village is functioning with clerk-treasurer Ella Stanton and Hartz handling the day-to-day operations of the village.

“Hopefully we can resolve this soon” he said.

If all goes to plan, Hartz said village council plans to meet Dec. 1 to review applications before making a decision.

Varckette was village administrator for five years. He thanked the village for the accomplishments they made together during his final meeting last week. Council members also expressed their thanks for his work.
