ASHTABULA — The Ashtabula Maritime and Surface Transportation Museum will host its next monthly History on Tap! program from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 14 at Cloven Hoof Brewing on Bridge Street.

This month’s featured speaker is retired Great Lakes Capt. David Beckwith.

“Captain Beckwith’s career spans many, many years,” said Bob Frisbie, chairman of the Museum’s Board of Directors.

“He started out washing dishes and rose through the ranks the old-fashion way — what is known as ‘hawsepiping.’ Dave certainly knows what it’s like to be out on the lake, and I am sure he has some great stories to tell.”

The History on Tap! program is an informal gathering that meets once a month at a local pub or restaurant.

“This is a friend-raising activity where folks can participate in the discussion while enjoying a happy-hour ambiance,” says Jenny Luhta, chair of the Museum’s Outreach and Education Committee.

“It is designed to allow people to come and go whenever they please. We start the conversation, and then it goes from there.”
