JEFFERSON — An Ashtabula County Jail inmate was taken to the hospital after allegedly being assaulted by another inmate, according to sheriff’s reports on the incident.
Steven O’Neal allegedly assaulted John Rose around 4 p.m. on July 23, according to reports about the incident.
Rose was pacing in the housing unit and arguing with two inmates when O’Neal allegedly walked behind Rose and struck him, according to the report.
O’Neal then allegedly threw Rose to the ground and struck him several times in the face, according to the report. At that point, corrections officers arrived and ordered O’Neal and other inmates back to their cells. Rose had a number of visible injuries to his face, according to the report. He was transported to UH Geneva for medical care, then returned to the jail.
