ASHTABULA — A 21-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition Tuesday after being shot Monday afternoon at Bonniewood, an Ashtabula Metropolitan Housing Authority apartment complex.

Luis Ramirez was shot around 1 p.m., Ashtabula Police Chief Robert Stell said.

Four people were involved in the shooting, including Ramirez, and multiple shots were fired, Stell said.

As of Tuesday, there have been no arrests, he said.

Police were called when Ramirez arrived at the emergency room at Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was flown by medical helicopter to a Cleveland hospital, where he remains, police said.

Ashtabula Police officers and detectives investigated the scene Monday, and continued to investigate the shooting on Tuesday, Stell said.

This was the sixth shooting in Ashtabula this year.

Just last September, a 21-year-old man suffered a serious gunshot wound to the abdomen but couldn’t offer the police any specific information. A week later, a man in his 20s suffered a gunshot wound to the groin while driving in the Ashtabula Harbor. Police believe he may have accidentally shot himself.

In July, a man shot another man in the leg during an altercation on Eagle Drive. The wound was not life-hreatening.

In June, an Ashtabula man shot a 41-year-old Conneaut man in the arm when he wouldn’t leave a neighbor’s house.

A shooting occurred in March near the Dollar General on West Prospect, and the year started off with a 32-year-old Painesville man shot and killed in January at the Circle K on Main Avenue.
