GENEVA — Two new city council members were sworn-in Monday night.

City Manager Doug Starkey swore in Mario Butera and Lucas McDaniel as new Geneva council members.

"On behalf of all the staff here at the city, I'd like to welcome our new council members Lucas McDaniel and Mario Butera," he said. "We are happy to see council fill the two seats and we look forward working with all all of our council to keep Geneva moving forward."

McDaniel, 35, is a tax analyst for the Lubrizol Corporation in Wickliffe. He took the council seat left vacant by John Wilt, who resigned his council position in January.

"I'm very excited to serve the people of Geneva and humbled to have been selected from so many excellent applicants," he said after being sworn in. "Geneva is a wonderful place to live and l look forward to doing my part to make Geneva great again."

Butera, 29, is Geneva High School's Band Director. He took the council seat left vacant by Jessica Stamper after her resignation in February.

Butera said while on council he hoped to build an even stronger bond between the community and schools through his unique position as Geneva High School's band director.

"I'm happy to be a member of council," he said after being sworn in. "I'm excited to be involved in the community and to learn more about how to enhance the great things we have going on here."
