ASHTABULA - - The walls of Lakeside Junior High School look like an art gallery as elementary students displayed for their art.

This is the first Ashtabula Area City Schools Elementary Art Show. District elementary art teachers have decided to display student artwork in the show.

"It is very exciting," said Sherrie Beebe, art teacher at McKinsey and Chestnut Elementary schools

Beebe, along with other elementary art teachers Tiffany Monroe of State Road Elementary and Saybrook Elementary; Maryann Leombruno, of Thomas Jefferson Elementary and Plymouth Elementary schools and Cory White of Thurgood Marshall Elementary and Washington Elementary schools, coordinated the event.

About 500 pieces of art ranging from water colors to drawings to three-dimensional artwork are on display, Monroe said. Students in grades fourth through sixth participated.

There are five pieces per class. Students were asked to choose their best work so far this school year. The students then choose which pieces would be displayed for the show, Monroe said.

The display, which is open to the public for viewing, runs through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those interested in viewing the show during school hours should report to the office first.

Tonight an opening reception will be from 4 to 6 for students, parents and the public. Refreshments will be served.
