SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — The Dragon Back to School Bash will celebrate the start of a new school year for students in the Ashtabula Area City Schools District.

The event will be 3-6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Lakeside High School Stadium.

“The start of the school year is such an exciting time,” Superintendent Mark Potts said. “To celebrate the start of an exciting new school year, we will be holding the fourth annual Dragon Back to School Bash.”

Potts said the idea is to gather as a community to welcome students back in a day filled with fun and reach out to families with important information. Students and parents will have the opportunity to meet teachers and staff and reunite with friends and classmates.

“We want to provide a hot dog lunch, family photos, health screenings and much more,” Potts said. “Tables will be set up at the Bash for parents to pick up important information or for giveaways.”

Lakeside High School Principal Bob Klinar said it’s a great time to reconnect with students’ families.

“As a school district, and particularly as a high school, the relationships we strive to forge with our families is paramount to working collaboratively to ensure our students achieve,” he said. “We are elated to celebrate and embrace the countless educational possibilities that lie ahead when we welcome back our ‘school family’ at the AACS Back to School Bash.”

School Board President William Niemi said it’s a wonderful event and he’s planning to attend again this year.

“It’s a well-attended event,” he said. “There will a lot of fun activities for the kids and several organizations will have booths set up with information.”

Volunteers still are being sought, as are as businesses and organizations to help out, Potts said.
