ASHTABULA -- The City of Ashtabula Income Tax Department, located on the second floor of the Municipal Building, 4717 Main Ave., will extend its hours on April 14 and 17. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The deadline for filing city income taxes is midnight April 17.
The minimum penalty for an income-tax return received or postmarked after April 17 is $50; and if a tax is due, interest of 12 percent a year.
Every resident 18 years of age or older must file a tax return, even if no tax is due.
City residents who have not received the required forms should contact the tax office as soon as possible. Failure to receive a form does not excuse the taxpayer from filing and paying city taxes by April 17.
