City Manager Jim Timonere is “In the Mood” to dance.
Glenn Miller’s classic will be one of many songs played this summer at Walnut Beach when the Big Bands on the Beach concert series hits the sand, thanks to Ashtabula County Medical Center and Timothy Kalil. The hospital has agreed to sponsor the monthly, summertime event and Kalil will serve as organizer.
Timonere announced the news at Monday’s City Council meeting.
“It will be good for the city,” he said. “I very, very much appreciate ACMC stepping up for the city.”
Kalil has been involved in the concert series for several years. About 500 people attend each concert, on average.
In other business, council:
n Learned 84 dilapidated properties have been demolished in the city since 2010;
n Reminded everyone Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday;
n City workers are starting to fill potholes, and
n The city will spend $252,056 on the West Avenue bridge project, not $457,000, as Timonere previously reported. The Ohio Department of Transportation forgot about a $200,000 loan, so the city doesn’t have to spend as much money, he said.
“For once, we had a mistake in our favor,” Timonere said.
