ASHTABULA — An Ashtabula man was flown to a Cleveland hospital Wednesday night after he was shot during a struggle with another man in the 500 block of West 58th Street, Chief Robert Stell said.
City police were called to the residence around 7 p.m. for a report of a gunshot victim, reports show.
"This was an extension of a fight the day before when somebody got punched," Stell said. "Somebody went to the residence and introduced one or two guns — we're not sure about that yet."
Police recovered a .380-caliber handgun at the scene, he said.
The victim, a male in his late 30s or early 40s, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was first transported to Ashtabula County Medical Center, then life-flighted to a Cleveland hospital, Stell said.
On Thursday, the man was still hospitalized and his condition unknown, Stell said.
"We have two suspects; one in custody," he said. "We are still trying to sort this all out. We will know more [Friday]."
Anyone with any information on the shooting should call the Ashtabula Police Department at 440-992-7172.
