JEFFERSON — An Ashtabula man accused of having sexual contact with a child was indicted by an Ashtabula County Grand Jury this week.
Christopher Otto, 24, of Ashtabula, was indicted Wednesday on one count of gross sexual imposition.
The crime Otto is accused of committing occurred between April and August of 2017 in Plymouth Township, according to the indictment.
The child was born in 2012 — the indictment does not provide the birth date — meaning the child would have been 5 or 6 when the incident happened.
A warrant was not issued for Otto’s arrest and he is not currently in jail. Instead a summons was issued and Otto is ordered to appear in court Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m.
Ashtabula County Prosecutor Cecelia Cooper said Otto was a family friend of the victim.
“The victim told [the] mother about the defendant wanting to play what he called the ‘privacy game’ and she reported it to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department who investigated from there,” Cooper said.
Gross sexual imposition in this case involves an adult having sexual contact, as opposed to sexual conduct which requires penetration, with a child under the age of 13, Cooper said.
