ASThe county will be hosting an event for residents to dispose of hazardous materials, including paint, stain, household cleaners, and other items.

The event will be held at A-Tech on Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the Ashtabula County website.

The event will only be open to Ashtabula County residents, and people will have to provide proof of residency, according to the county. The event is not open to commercial businesses.

Last year, 163 households took advantage of the event, and dropped off things like oil, paint and stains, household chemicals, antifreeze and florescent bulbs, said Heidi Barringer, administrative secretary with the Community Services and Planning department.

Things that are not accepted at the event are tires, explosives, ammunition, gas cylinders, radioactive waste, pharmaceuticals and large quantities of unknown chemicals, according to the county.

Those seeking information are encouraged to call 440-576-1530.
