CONNEAUT — An Ashtabula business is preparing for the its first full season at the Conneaut Harbor.
Harbor Yak opened in the Ashtabula Harbor in 2017, and rents kayaks, paddle boards and hydro-bikes. Last year, Harbor Yak reached out to the city about opening a Harbor Yak location in Conneaut.
Harbor Yak was open in Conneaut for 11 days near the end of the season last year, co-owner Alexa Hart said.
“It was really awesome. We had really good feedback, so we’re really excited to get a full season this year and see how it goes,” she said.
The location will be open Thursday through Sunday in May and June, and daily in July and August, Hart said.
Harbor Yak will open for the season on Memorial Day weekend, Hart said. The business will offer kayaks and paddle boards.
“We saw the opportunity and kind of ran with it. It’s a beautiful harbor there, and I know there’s lots going on in Conneaut, so we thought it was the perfect time to get in,” Hart said.
Harbor Yak is the latest in a number of additions to Conneaut’s harbor in recent years, including a number of new restaurants. The city will also be hosting a music festival called Conneaut City Limits this summer, with Breakwall BBQ, Sparky’s Place and Buccia Vineyards serving as hosts for the event.
The lakefront section of Conneaut also hosts more established events like D-Day Conneaut and the Perch and Pilsner festival.
Harbor Yak is located at Conneaut’s Public Dock. The business rents kayaks for $25 for three hours, or two-person kayaks for $50 for three hours, Hart said.
