ASHTABULA — INEOS Pigments gave $5,000 to the Ashtabula County Family YMCA so it may offer a pandemic child care service.
This service allows children of first responders to receive subsidized child care. Since the YMCA's pandemic center opened, the organization has provided $10,607 in financial assistance for child care services. The additional money from INEOS will be used to offset the YMCA's child care financial assistance expenses.
“The money from INEOS will help us to continue with our COVID-19 response services," said Trevor Sprague, executive director of the Ashtabula County Family YMCA. "It is vital that we support our community in any way possible and our child care service is a key part of that. It is imperative that we are able to keep this service running.”
Since the pandemic began, the State of Ohio cut teacher to student ratios from 1:18 down to 1:6, making it impossible to provide child care for key workers. Donations to the pandemic childcare program have allowed the Ashtabula County Family YMCA to maintain rates at the regular level and continue to provide an essential service.
In addition, the state ended pandemic childcare on June 1, increasing demand for YMCA childcare. In response, the charity expanded its facilities to meet increased childcare needs so that more children can be taken care of while maintaining a teacher-to-student ratio at the required amount for the state.
“The work that the Ashtabula County Family YMCA does is incredibly important for our community, particularly the Pandemic Child Care service," said Misty Hejduk, Human Resources Business Partner Manager at INEOS Pigments. "I am extremely pleased that we have been able to help during these difficult times.”
The donation will come from the INEOS Community Fund, established by INEOS Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe in March 2020 in tandem with the company’s COVID-19 “Hands On” campaign, which set up new production lines to provide millions of bottles of free hand sanitizer per month to hospitals and frontline healthcare. The fund enables INEOS sites across the world to support the charitable organizations doing vital work in their local communities at this particularly difficult time.
