The news update for the weekend of 8/8 to 8/10
I am out of town for the weekend and there seems to be some difficulty with the news update. Unfortunately, I need to be on the local network in order to resolve the issue. I should have all of the weekend's news and photos on the site by Monday morning. Sorry for the disappointment of the lack of news on the site and I'll have the situation corrected as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding, and for reading us on-line.
These buttons have been taken down for some troubleshooting of the homepage template. You can link to these publications via the text-links under the list of local stories on the home page.
I am in the process of changing the weekEnder on-line presentation. I'm going to replace it's current home page placement with the sports section. For the most part, you can access the publication by downloading the file through the button on the right-hand side of any page. I will be feeding some of the stories printed in that publication as text articles in case someone happens to be searching for something that was published in that section.
When I'm done changing things around, you'll be able to view that section as any other section, but it may not be updated at the time of the publication date -- most likely the following Tuesday.
As most of you may know there are some 'issues' with the content on the site. There was a upgrade to the content management system that didn't go off very well.
The stories are there, it's just that the template won't display them. The problem is being worked on. If you use the search box, you can get access to the stories that won't list on the template.
Anyway, I hope your day is going better than mine :)
I have changed back to "the old way" of displaying the obituaries to address some of the complaints I have received. I may have to switch back and forth between the different content views if I encounter performance issues with the server.
For those new to rss feeds (that little orange "xml" rectangle at the top of each section) ...
Most modern web browsers will support this feature. What this means to you, the customer, is that you do not have to specifically visit our site in order to have the headlines delivered -- the browser does it for you.
When you bookmark one of these pages in the web browser's bookmark toolbar such as with FireFox, it will create a "folder" that lists the articles published in that section. Mozilla and Camino users should be able to achieve the same functionality since they are all based on the same "engine", just a different chassis.
Flock users can get the same effect, but because it is a "beta" product, you have to specifically right-click on the star icon, and choose "Star and Tag This Page ..." to get the same effect -- otherwise it just drops a regular 'chassis bookmark in your collection (at least on a Mac).
For Safari users, I haven't figured out how to make it work "like it's supposed to" for that browser at the time of this post. If I find the time to play with it, I'll post a solution. If you figure it out then let me know? Thanks ;)
Safari does support RSS, but not like the "the other kids".
Microsoft fans will have to wait for the release of Internet "Exploder" 7.0 or sign up to beta test.
They present an interesting challenge on the new platform, considering how the whole 'back office' process works. I should have the process working by Tuesday afternoon, Wed. morning the latest.
Keep in mind that you may not be able to see them if you configure your web browser to block images from external web sites.
I use the Flock web browser, which is based on the Mozilla web browser. All browsers based on Mozilla (firefox, Safari, Opera) allow for blocking of external images (because the are probably ads). In order for you to see the images of the movie listings, you'll have to make an exception for the site: http://static.cnhi.zope.net and allow images to come from there.
If you use an external application to block "third-party" images, then you should configure your software to allow http://static.cnhi.zope.net to give you images.
It will also make the pages look a little bit better because the 'spacer' images won't be blocked by your browser.
p.s.
I am still working on improving the Obituary section, but there's more of an administrative burden to the process. I'm targeting the end of the month to have this section straightened out.
