ASHTABULA - - The Ashtabula Board of Education has launched a search for the district's next superintendent.
The board is providing an opportunity for community and staff input during the process. Teachers, administrators and other staff members and district residents are invited to attend one of four focus-group meetings planned for Aug. 21 at the new high school. The meetings will take place in Lakeside High School's Large Group Instruction Room, 6600 Sanborn Road.
A meeting for district administrators will be held at 11 a.m., and district teachers will meet at 1 p.m. Classified personnel will meet at 4 p.m., and the public is invited to attend a 7 p.m. meeting.
Kathy LaSota, an Ohio School Boards Association consultant who is assisting the board in its search, will facilitate the one-hour sessions.
Participants will be asked the following questions:
- What are the major issues, challenges and opportunities facing the district over the next three to five years?
- What performance expectations should be in place for the next superintendent? and
- What personal and professional qualities should the next superintendent possess?
The results of the conversations will be used in the screening and evaluation of candidates. The board is accepting superintendent applications, and the deadline is Aug. 28. It hopes to name a new superintendent by mid-October.
