ANDOVER — Second-year principal Dan Jackson is very ecstatic on welcoming the new staff to Pymatuning Valley High School. Jackson said he expects the new staff to bring energy, creativity and excitement for their subject of interest in order for students to share the common goal of excellence. Jackson feels the added teachers will be greatly beneficial to the whole school community. The new staff consists of Biology (II) teacher Ricky Walters, freshman English teacher Andrew Drummond and Intervention Specialist Justin Smith.
Biology (II) teacher Ricky Walters is a graduate of Lima-Bath High School where he was an active member of the basketball and football teams. Walters pursued his education studying biology with a minor in environmental science at Mount Vernon Nazarene University where he also played basketball. Walters decided to become a teacher in order to share his passion of science with others and to be involved with youth. He said he hopes to display a new enthusiasm and appreciation for what goes on in students’ lives, and loves that in Pymatuning Valley Schools everyone seems to get along.
Freshman English teacher Andrew Drummond is a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. Drummond also enjoys running and playing music in his spare time, for he was involved in marching band, track, cross country and basketball during his time at Brookfield High School. Drummond furthered his education at the University of Mount Union studying middle childhood education and is pursuing his Secondary English License. Drummond said he was inspired to be a teacher for the idea of changing the lives of young people and is hoping to bring excitement to learning.
Intervention Specialist Justin Smith said he is planning on being friendly, helpful and available to students, and loves the fact that everyone is nice. Smith graduated from Jefferson High School and Mount Vernon Nazarene University with a degree in psychology. He recently moved back to his home town after living in North Carolina for several years.
