CONNEAUT — May is a very busy time of year at Conneaut High School, as the school year comes to an end.

It’s prom season! Conneaut High School prom will be Saturday with the traditional CHS “walk through” at 4:30 p.m. Then the students will be transported to Rainbow Gardens in Erie to enjoy a Las Vegas themed prom, including a special performance by the famous magician Rick Smith Jr. The entertainer has been on many popular TV shows such as the Ellen DeGeneres Show and America’s Got Talent, He is also in Guinness Book of World Records for the farthest throw of a playing card. Afterwards, the students are headed to Splash Lagoon to cool off and end the night.

Conneaut National Honor Society is getting excited as the time draws nearer to their end-of-the-year reward. They will be going on a trip to New Orleans, La., on May 17. In New Orleans, the group will tour some of the well-known tourist attractions. They will also be learning about, and seeing first-hand, the remarkable history and culture of New Orleans. It is sure to be a very fun learning experience and a nice reward for all of the hard work the National Honor Society has done for their community this year.

CHS will be giving out Academic Awards 6:30 p.m. May 22. These recognitions are awarded to those students who achieve academic excellence such as: winning scholarships, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average, making honor or merit roll, or even having perfect attendance.

On May 23, the Spring Sports Awards presentation will be at 6:30 p.m. Athletes on the boys’ tennis team, boys’ baseball team, girls’ softball team and boys’ and girls’ track will be honored with awards, letters or participation gifts for their sport.

The CHS Music Department will hold a Pop Concert 7 p.m. May 24 in the CHS cafeteria. They will be performing pieces that are influenced by widespread pop music.

It’s the end of the year so that means it is time for graduation. The A-Tech students will have their graduation on May 27, while the CHS students will have theirs June 2 at 7 p.m.

The last day of the school year is approaching. The students will have finals on May 31 and June 1. June 2 is the first day of summer vacation. Although the school year seems long, it truly flies by. We wish everyone well for the remainder of the year and a happy and healthy summer.
