Free "Meals on the Avenue" will be served at New Hope Pentecostal Church, 5917 West Ave., 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. All are welcome. For more information, call the church.


Tender Mercies Food Pantry, a ministry of Pymatuning Community Church, 6459 Route 7 S., will serve free hot lunches and have a food distribution noon Monday. A food distribution only will be 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. All are welcome for lunch. Registration is a state requirement in order to receive food. Proof of residency and income and Social Security numbers for all members of the household are required. Call the church to register.

Italian Sons and Daughters of America Lake Erie Lodge catered picnic and meeting will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Saybrook Township Park, 5941 Lake Road W. To make reservations, call any board member. For more information, contact Jean (John J. Meola) of Ashtabula.

As a service project Girl Scout Troop 776 is collecting old prescription bottles for the Vials of Life program. Scouts will collect bottles 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30 at the Ashtabula Mall and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 21 at Ashtabula Wal-Mart. Vials of Life contain vital information about a person, medical history, contact persons, etc., and are placed in a person's home where emergency medical services personnel can find them at the time of an emergency. The Conneaut Area Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at Villa at the Lake. County commissioner Joe Moro-ski will speak about "New Directions and Develop-ments in Ashtabula County." The public is welcome.


Henderson Memorial Public Library, 54 E. Jefferson St. will hold "Front Lawn Detecting: A Whodunit Beneath the Grass" 11 a.m. Saturday for all ages. Children will receive their own magnifying glasses.
