June 12 COMMUNITY events

ASHTABULA

A Flag Day service will be 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Ashtabula Elks Lodge 208, 3115 Lake Road W. The purpose of the service is to honor the nation's flag, to celebrate the anniversary of it's birth and to recall the achievements attained beneath it's folds. A cerebral palsy benefit steak fry dinner will be held after the service.

The Finnish Heritage American Society will celebrate Juhannus 6 p.m. June 23 at the Finnish Cultural Center, 1330 W. Eighth St. The program will include accordion music by Bill Orqvist and Linda and John Riddell. Arnold Erickson will speak on his book entitled "Made in America" and John Laituri from Paines-ville will speak about his life story. Those attending are asked to bring a snack, dessert, salad or sandwiches to share and lawn chairs.

Harbor-Topky Library Book Discussion Group is looking for new members. The group meets noon on the last Wednesday of the month. All are welcome. Books and summaries are available at the library front desk. "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini is the book for June 27.

Station Avenue Task Force will meet 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Thur-good Marshall Elemen-tary, 3703 Station Ave.

CONNEAUT

Cara Mia Ladies will meet 5 p.m. Thursday at Basil's Restaurant. Guests are welcome. Canned goods will be collected for the food pantry. For more information contact Eleanor Pignotti.

Conneaut Kmart Associates, past and present, will meet for lunch 1 p.m. Thursday at Perkins. All are welcome.

WINDSOR

Northeast Ohio 4-H Camp Whitewood, 7983 Wiswell Road, will hold "A Pirate's Life for Me" camp for youth ages 8 to 14 June 24 through 30. The camp provides swimming, shooting sports, boating, outdoor living skills, crafts and environmental education. Children do not have to be a member of 4-H to participate.

The cost is $200 which includes meals, snacks, lodging, accident/health insurance, program supplies, crafts and instruction. For an application or more information, call The Ohio State University Extension Office, (440) 576-9008.
