JEFFERSON — • Ashtabula County sheriff’s deputies have charged an Ashtabula man with domestic violence and menacing after he reportedly threatened to shoot his father during a confrontation in a restaurant parking lot late Thursday afternoon.

The 21-year-old man showed his father a pistol and then threatened to shoot him during an incident outside the Steak and Shake in Ashtabula Township, deputies said.

The incident began around 5:11 p.m., when deputies were contacted by a 41-year-old Jefferson man, who reported his son followed him a short distance on Route 20. The pair eventually met up in the restaurant parking lot, where the younger man became belligerent and eventually display a handgun. The older man fled the scene, deputies said.

When contacted by deputies, the younger man denied making threats or owning a gun, according to a report.

• Charges are pending against a Williamsfield woman and son whom deputies say were caught stealing railroad ties in Cherry Valley Township last weekend.

Deputies were summoned to a stretch of Norfolk Southern Railway track near Ayers Road on Sunday afternoon, where they encountered a pickup truck and trailer stuck in the mud. More than two dozen ties were on the trailer, according to a report.

The 47-year-old woman and her 25-year-old son could be charged with trespassing and theft, deputies said.
