ASHTABULA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

• A man reportedly tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl walking along Columbus Avenue in Ashtabula Township late last week, according to the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, driving a small, dark-colored four-door sedan, initially offered the girl a ride Friday afternoon, deputies said. The man drove ahead and blocked the girl’s path with the vehicle, then shouted at her repeatedly to get into the vehicle, according to a report. The girl ran and the man drove away, deputies said.

The man was described as white, small in stature with a long, gray beard and gray hair. He is believed to be between 40 and 50 years old. Some of the encounter was captured on a nearby business’ surveillance camera, deputies said.

• A 25-year-old relative is suspected of stealing jewelry from a Saybrook Township residence, deputies said. The missing jewelry was reported by a Gerald Road woman on Wednesday afternoon, according to a report.

Some of the jewelry was sold to local pawn shops a few weeks earlier, deputies learned.

• A 33-year-old North Ridge West, Saybrook Township man, faces multiple charges connected to an alleged domestic violence incident Monday.

According to a report, the man became “out of control” and threw his bowl of oatmeal at his 30-year-old girlfriend and the mother of his 3-year-old child. He grabbed and smashed the phone on which she attempted to call for help and removed the batteries from other phones in the house.

The report stated that the suspect shoved the woman against a wall, causing her to hit her head; the victim claimed she was unconscious for a few moments.

The woman’s children, ages 3 and 5, attempted to stop the attack. The man left in the woman’s vehicle.

Saybrook Township Fire and Rescue was called and the woman was transported to the hospital; she had a large lump on her head, according to the report, but was released later in the day.

The woman’s car was discovered at a West 57th Street, Ashtabula, address later in the day. The suspect was at the residence and arrested. He faces charges of disrupting public services, endangering children and domestic violence.

• A 26-year-old Ashtabula woman faces a petty theft charge after she was seen removing tags from clothing and placing the items on her infant on Saturday at an Ashtabula Township store. The woman had an active warrant and received a summons.

• A 54-inch Samsung television was discovered missing from the Saybrook Township dwelling of a 70-year-old woman spending the winter in Florida.

A neighbor who had a key to the woman’s house had last entered the dwelling in February, when she lost the key. The homeowner sent her a replacement key, and the neighbor discovered the television missing when she returned to the house on Saturday. No sign of forced entry could be found, according to the report.
