ASHTABULA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

• A traffic stop in Ashtabula Township Sunday evening resulted in a drug charge for a passenger who had hypodermic needles in her wallet, according to an Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department report.

The 22-year-old Ashtabula woman admitted to being addicted to heroin. A deputy stopped the car because it was missing a rear license plate and its tail lights were not functioning. The driver and one of the three passengers were found to be wanted on warrants, as well.

• A traffic stop on Saturday resulted in drug charges for a driver that had a quantity of loose medications in a pants pocket and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, a report stated. The 48-year-old man also had failed to reinstate his driver’s license and was driving on expired plates.

• A 26-year-old woman was charged with obstruction in the discovery and apprehension of a suspect in a bad-check passing crime.

On Thursday, a deputy assisted three Ashtabula City Police officers in the attempt to arrest the suspect at the Glover Drive apartment of the suspect’s girlfriend. The door was locked and no one would answer, although it was evident there were occupants. A housing authority maintenance worker unlocked the door for the officers, who spoke with the 26-year-old woman. She denied that the suspect was in the apartment, but police found him hiding in the bathtub.

• A Williamsfield Township man who was sleeping on his girlfriend’s couch told a deputy that he was assaulted by the woman’s former boyfriend Monday morning.

According to a report, the 25-year-old was awakened by the former boyfriend who refused to leave the house and, after 20 minutes, punched the 25-year-old in the face. The victim suffered a bloody lip.

The suspect left on a red bicycle, heading toward Pennsylvania, according to the report. He faces assault and criminal trespassing charges.

• The department used a canine officer to corner a New Brighton, Pa. man wanted on a felony warrant.

The operation was carried out at a Gate Street, Andover, home Monday. The 26-year-old subject was reported to be armed and suspected of hiding in a dark basement of the house. After issuing several warnings, the canine officer was given the order to search for the subject.

A scream from a dark corner of the crawl space led deputies to the suspect, who was attempting to hide from the dog behind a piece of foam.
