KINGSVILLE TOWNSHIP —
Former Conneaut, Ohio, resident David J. Palagyi, age 57, of West Springfield, Pa., died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at St. Vincent’s Health Center in Erie, Pa., after recently being diagnosed with lung cancer.
He was born Feb. 26, 1957, in Conneaut and was the son of Elmer and Lydia (Steel) Palagyi.
A graduate of Conneaut High School, Dave was employed as an electrician with Third Dimension, Inc., performing domestic and commercial electrical work.
Dave was passionate about helping people. This prompted him to become an EMT and firefighter. He was very active with Conneaut Fire Station #3 where he served at one time as Captain and piloted the air boat. He was a reserve officer with the Conneaut Police Department and also a certified Special Deputy Sheriff with the Erie County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse involved in search and rescue.
He loved the outdoors, gardening, woodworking, and was an avid bow hunter. He enjoyed canoeing and raised two horses, and had his companion dog “Seeker” who he was training for search and rescue.
Survivors include his fiancée, Amy Swanson of West Springfield, Pa.; his son, Dustin Cropek of Conneaut, Ohio; his sister, Maggie (Rick) Tressler of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling Hours will be Friday, June 13th, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the MARCY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, followed by a Memorial Service conducted by Tim Kraus, of the Conneaut Church of Christ.
Immediately following the Memorial Service, a picnic and time of fellowship will be held at the upper pavilion at Conneaut Township Park, Lake Road, in Conneaut.
