Maurice H. Mead

ANDOVER — Maurice H. "Gramps" Mead, age 86, of Andover, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at his home.

He was born May 9, 1927, in Cherry Valley Township, Ohio, a son of Myrlen Lomis and Winifred Irene (Mills) Mead. A resident of Andover since 1950, Mr. Mead was a 1945 graduate of New Lyme Deming School.

He owned and operated dairy and grain farms in Cherry Valley and Andover for 64 years. He was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, where he served as a liturgist. He also was a member of the IOOF; Farm Bureau; Albino Rebekah Lodge #773, Dorset; and was a 70 year member of the Richfield Grange.

Mr. Mead was also very proud to serve on the Pymatuning Valley Board of Education for 12 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing baseball.

Mr. Mead is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverly L. (Waters) Mead, whom he married June 29, 1949, of Andover; his two sons, Leslie A. Mead of Cheyenne, Wyo. and Lonnie W. (Angela) Mead of New Castle, Pa.; six grandchildren, Bryon, Daron (Kathleen), Laura (Shawn), Jennifer (Joe), Lonnie II (Katie), and Ashlee; five great-grandchildren, Kooper, Josiah, Terry, Nannette and Dalton; three brothers, Maynard (Marvel) Mea                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 d of Orwell, Ohio, Millard (Marilyn) Mead of Bucyrus, Ohio and Leonard (Florence) Mead of Andover, Ohio; and one sister, Myrna (Richard) Walish of Milton, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry G. Mead in 1998; and one brother, Merlin Mead.

A Funeral Service will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, March 29th, at BAUMGARDNER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICE, 134 Prospect St., Andover, with Pastor Pat Seger and the Rev. Millard Mead officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Valley Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 28th, at the Funeral Home.
