SANDUSKY — Robert “Bob” E. Baxter, age 84, residing in the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, loving father and grandfather, survived by his daughter, Catherine Kimbler; son-in-law, Steve Kimbler; grandchildren, Casey, Zachary, Alexander, Amanda, and Rachel Reinmuller, died Sunday morning, March 24, 2013.
He was born on May 6, 1928 in Ashtabula. Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran, Electronics 3rd class, ET3.
He retired from the railroad. He was a life member of the Ashtabula VFW Post 943. He was known at the Ohio Veterans Home as "the Bishop" due to his compassionate nature. He was always taking the guys to church. Bob accepted the Lord Jesus as his savior.
Bob was a very compassionate man. He would give the shirt off his back. He raised community awareness for the cancer society, and was involved with the VFW Buddy Poppies campaign in the role of service officer. Bob enjoyed good conversation, having fun, and reading. His lifelong goal was to live forever!
At Bob’s request, there will be no viewing. Cremation will take place at TOFT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
A Memorial Service will be held 3 P.M., Friday, March 29th, at the Ohio Veterans Home Giffin Chapel, 3416 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, with Chaplain Paul Birmingham officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the Ohio Veterans Home Cemetery.
