ASHTABULA — Evelyn B. McKinley, age 95, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born Nov. 16, 1917, in Burghill, Ohio, she was the daughter of George Cassius and Mercy Ann Fell. She was a member of the 1935 graduating class of Vernon High School. On Dec. 24, 1939, she married LaVerne Louis McKinley at the Burghill Baptist Church and together they celebrated thirty two years of joy and happiness.
Evelyn dedicated her life to her family and her church. She was a member of Ashtabula Community First Church of God. She was a Den Mother for Pack 8 for many years and truly enjoyed watching the little boys grow into wonderful young men.
As a Sunday School teacher, she shared her love of the Lord with many children in her twenty six years of dedicated service to her God and church. Evelyn received the Grand Cross of Colors from the Supreme Assembly, Rainbow for Girls on June 23, 1955 for her dedication to the order and to the young ladies who belonged. She was also a very active member of The Order of the Eastern Star, Lake Erie Chapter; where served as Worthy Matron in 1966, the Chapter’s seventy-fifth anniversary. She was also a member of Covered Bridge Chapter #581.
She is survived by her son, Alan (Barbara) McKinley of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Eric McKinley, Robin (Brandan) Martin and Jeremiah and Heather McKinley; great-grandson, Michael O’Neal McKinley; her brother, James (Elsie) Fell of Kinsman; and several loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne in 1971; two sons, David George McKinley in 2005 and Ronald Ray McKinley in 2012; sister, Kathryn Pahon in 2001; brother, William Fell in 1971; and her parents.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 27th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with Pastor Hal Morgan, of Ashtabula First Community Church of God, officiating.
Calling Hours will be held from 10 a.m. until time of Service, Wednesday, at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Masonic Section of Greenlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, North Kingsville.
