CLEVELAND — Jeffrey Douglas Hopes, age 50, of Ashtabula, Ohio, died unexpectedly Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic.

The son of Nancy (Josett) Hopes and Donald L. Hopes, he was born May 12, 1962, in Akron, Ohio. Jeffrey received his GED in Houston, Texas, and attended Bay Community College in Panama City, Fla., where he lived before moving to Ohio. He was a senior at Kent State University working on a BS degree in AAB Computer Technology. Jeff earned his MTA in security fundamentals in St. Louis, Mo., on April 6, 2013.

Jeffrey was active in the AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals) at Kent State University, Ashtabula. He loved the Lord and was able to recite verses from every book in the Bible. He attended First Baptist Church in Jefferson, Ohio, where he helped with Awana and loved working with children. Jeff loved to cook and bake, and enjoyed the swimming pool in the summer.

He is survived by his mother, Nancy Josett Hopes; father, Donald L. (Shirley) Hopes; brothers, Dr. Scott (Ronda) Hopes and Todd C. Hopes; stepsister, Shonda O. Hiers; stepbrother, Monty O’Brien; and a very special cousin, Kandra; nephews, Aaron and Christian Hopes; niece, Ariel Hopes; aunts and uncles, Glenn (Shirley) Josett, Donnie (Sally) Peet, Larry (Eileen) Goodiel, Rose Urbano and Harry W. (Fran) Hopes; and many cousins. Jeffrey is also survived by his very special Yorkshire Terriers, “Precious and Tara”.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Nora Josett, Ruth and Donald Harris, and grandfather, Harry W. Hopes.

Jeff was an organ donor and because he gave others a chance at life upon his passing, Jeff will live on everyday.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8th, at the First Baptist Church, 85 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jeffrey’s name to the AITP Chapter at Kent State University, Ashtabula, or to the First Baptist Church, Jefferson, Ohio.
