JEFFERSON — D. Michael Uhrain, age 84, of W. Walnut St., Jefferson, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, April 24, 2013, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center in Erie.
He was born April 30, 1928, in Ashtabula, the son of the late Michael J. and Sadie (Qvick) Uhrain and had lived in Jefferson the past 36 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines. Mr. Uhrain married Catherine P. Skidmore on Oct. 9, 1948 in Jefferson.
Mike worked for Laird Lumber and Detrex Chemical for many years. He and his wife Kay then went on to buy and operate the Jefferson Diner for 17 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Jefferson Eagles Club and enjoyed bowling, baseball, softball and golf.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine (Kay) Uhrain; three children, Linda K. (Bill) Cuckler of Ocala, Fla., Carol L. (Sid) Schaefer of Waterford, Pa. and James M. (Rhonda) Uhrain of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will held 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27th, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 89 E. Satin St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Fred Grimm officiating. Private burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery.
No calling hours will be observed.
