Debra L. Smock

ASHTABULA — Debra Lynn Smock, age 55, of Conneaut, Ohio, died on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center Hospice Unit, with her loving family at her side.

The daughter of Frank and Betty (Zigmont) Vegh, she was born on Sept. 19, 1957, in Ashtabula and was a graduate of Ashtabula High School. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, St. Joseph Worship site.

On May 1, 1999 she married her husband Kenneth “Kenny” Smock and enjoyed fishing and hiking on their many adventures.

Debbie had a heart of gold, she would do anything to let you know how special you were to her. The many patients she cared for during her years as a healthcare provider were like family to her. She would see a need that they had and she would do everything she could to help them.

Debbie loved to shop. She enjoyed shopping at Goodwill Stores in the Tri-County area. She was the unofficial “Goodwill Ambassador”, her ability to find just what you needed was uncanny. Debbie loved to laugh and enjoyed making those around her laugh also. Her unique gifts were the highlight of the event.

Being a wife and mom brought her a sense of fulfillment, but being a grandmother was her passion. She spoiled her grandchildren on a daily basis, and  was so proud of her special name, ”Gramma BeeBee”. She had a special grand-dog “Bitsy”, who brightened her days and made her smile.

Debbie will be remembered for her love of life and all the joy that it brought her; her love of her friends and family; and her strength and grace during her illness.

She is survived by her husband, Kenny Smock of Conneaut; her daughter, Holly (Todd) Tesner of Freedom, Pa., and her son, Danny (Melissa) McConnell of Ashtabula; step-son, Mick Smock of Conneaut; grandchildren, Hailey, Caleb, Mya and Kody; siblings, Frank Vegh of Kingsville, Lori Cole, Lou-Ann (Ron) Wilkinson and Colleen Hopkins, all of Ashtabula, Lewis (Joyce) Doyle of Englewood, Fla., and Deena Palmer of Ashtabula; her mother, Betty Doyle, and her father, Frank (Carmella) Vegh, all of Ashtabula; and many loving nieces and nephews; and her beloved “Bitsy”.
