Cynthia E. Walters

ASHTABULA — Cynthia Ellen (Naddra) Walters, age 61, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at the Cleveland Clinic after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by the love of her life, Bob Walters, and her adoring family.

She was born August 14, 1951, in Wheeling, W.Va., the daughter of the late Thomas and Ida (Salem) Naddra. She married Bob Walters on August 18, 1989.

Cynthia taught English at Ashtabula High School for 31 years and also at the Vo-Ed School for 5 years. In addition to teaching, she formerly served as the cheerleader advisor. She also served as coordinator of gifted programs at Lakeside High School and was the English and Language Arts Department Facilitator for grades 7-12.

She graduated from Lake Erie College and received her M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction from Kent State University, and post-graduate instruction at Youngstown State, Kent State, and Harvard Universities. In 1997, she was named the Wal-Mart “Teacher of the Year.”

She enjoyed traveling with her husband, most recently visiting Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland, and loved to meet people from all over the world. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Walters of Ashtabula; step-children, Ryan (Celeste) Walters of Ashtabula, Amanda (John) Glavickas of Orwell and Amber Walters (Dave Laughlin, fiancé) of Cuyahoga Falls; sisters, Elaine Naddra  of Ashtabula and Juliann Morrison of Geneva; brother, George (Mary) Naddra of Montgomery, Ala.; step-grandchildren, Noah and Jacob Glavickas and Matthew and Bailey Walters; sister-in-laws, Sandy (Greg) Hare and Char Walters, both of Cortland; nieces, Denise (Jim) DiDonato and Kristina Naddra; nephews, Robert Morrison and Michael Naddra; great-nieces, Courtney DiDonato and Kaden Naddra; great-nephew, Matthew DiDonato.

A Funeral Service will be held 12 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26th, at ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Long, of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of Service.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
