EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. — William E. Brown Sr., age 79, of East Springfield, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 1, 1934, to the late Nelson and Lois Ball Brown in Conneaut, Ohio. William graduated from West Springfield High School with the class of 1952, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. As an adult he continued to play both sports in community leagues, including the Glenwood Baseball League.
William was the owner of a successful trucking business (Brown Trucking), hauling seafood from the east coast to Ohio. Later in his career he became the owner of J.K. Shiley's Truck Garage in West Springfield, Pa. After retiring, he loved traveling in his motorhome with his loving wife Mech, and spending many winters in Florida.
William attended the Federated Church, and belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #381, the Zem Zem Shrine Club of Erie, Western Star Lodge #304, Albion, Eastern Star, Albion Chapter #22, and the Lake Erie Tri-State WIT Club.
He will be missed by his wife of 61 years and high school sweetheart, Amelia "Mech" Grubke Brown. He also leaves behind his children, Karen Otteni (Ronald) of Clover, S.C., Bill Brown Jr. (Linda) of Albion, Judy Pry (Carl) of East Springfield, Diane Lutz (Greg Krause) of Erie and Beth Merritt (Paul) of New Windsor, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Erin (Otteni) Davenport, Craig Otteni, Joe Brown, Jason Brown, Billy Brown, Ryan Pry, Heather (Pry) Gacek, and Tony Pry; his great-grandson, Dylan Davenport; brothers, Donald Brown (Cora) of West Springfield and Sheridan Brown (Peg) of Jamestown, N.Y.
Friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the EDDER FUNERAL HOME, 309 Main St. E., Girard. Masonic Services will be Saturday at 7 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Huntley officiating. Burial will follow at Springfield Cemetery.
