CLEVELAND — Morita O. Bryant, age 65, received her promotion to glory on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Hospice House of Cleveland with her loving daughter at her side.

Born on August 5, 1947, in East Orange, N.J., to Edward H. and Hazel (Lawson) Overbey, she was the middle child, between her sister, Regina and brother, Edward Overbey. She grew up in Essex County, N.J. and graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School. Morita attended Manhattan College, and owned three small business corporations. She later attended Kent State University in Kent, and majored in education. She also attended the Salvation Army College for officer training, specializing in theology and business administration.

Morita was the pastor and administrator at the Salvation Army Jamaica Citadel Corp, Queens, N.Y. and later was transferred to the Hough Corps and Community Center, Cleveland, Ohio, and later returned to New Jersey to serve as the pastor and counselor of the Adult Rehabilitation Center, Brooklyn, N.J.; she also served in Ashtabula Corps and the Homewood Corps Community Center in Pittsburgh Pa. until her retirement.

She married Lamar Bailey in 1965, that union produced two children, Kimberley Bailey Cromartie and Dwayne Bailey. Morita later married, Arthur “Andy” Bryant and they shared their ministry until Andy’s death in 1991.

Morita loved to travel and showed an appreciation for all of God’s creation. If there was a cruise Morita would be found there. Before her illness hindered her she would occasionally preach the gospel at Union Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a fellow servant in the ministry of the Rev. Thomas McCain.

While receiving treatment, she shared God’s message with other patients. If asked how she was doing, Morita would always respond with; “I am blessed”.

Now promoted to glory, she leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Kimberly Bailey Cromartie and her son-in-law, David Cromartie; her brother, Edward (Sheila) Overbey; four grandchildren, Corey Bailey, Allyiah Gibbons, Jasmine Bailey and Kendall Bailey; her nephew, Kevin Overbey; a host of nieces and nephews; cousins; children she helped to raise; sister-in-law, Dorothy Williams; her sister-in-friendship, Sylvia Killian; brother-in-law, Lawrence Killian; and her many Friends in Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lamar Bailey and Rev. Arthur “Andy” Bryant; her beloved sister, Regina Overbey; and her loving parents.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March, 26th, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula, with her friend and pastor, the Rev. Thomas McCain, officiating. Burial will be at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Ashtabula.

A Calling Hour will be observed at the Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time of Service on Tuesday.
