John C. Baldwin Sr.

BELOIT, Wis. — John C. Baldwin Sr., age 90, of Beloit, Wis. and formerly of Ashtabula, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday July 5, 2014, in Beloit, Wis., surrounded by his family.

He was born April 28, 1924, in Springboro, Pa., to Harvey David and Blanche L. (Johnson) Baldwin. He attended school through eighth grade and started working on farms after the death of his parents.

He served our country in the U.S. Army twice in WWII. He was drafted on D-Day and served in the Kansas National Guard. He earned an honorable discharge for his service. John married Betty J. Parker on Jan. 12, 1945, in Detroit, Mich.

He worked at Pinney Dock in Ashtabula, Ohio, as a laborer and other jobs until his retirement in the 1960’s. On July 12th of 1979, he took on a new profession when he became an ordained minister.

He was an avid reader. He loved the Bible and especially enjoyed study and fellowship with his daughter Colleen and spiritual Mother and close friend, Corine Hobson. He loved collecting anything associated with the Army and talked of memories of World War II quite often. He also collected old model cars, clocks, and coins. He was a member of New Life Ministries. He will be especially known for loving his Lord, children, and grandchildren. The lesson he lived by was to always treat people equally and with love.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to New Life Ministries, 1400 Harvey St., Beloit, Pastor R.K. and Doris Wiles, VFW, Madison VA Hospital, and Beloit Regional Hospice.

Left to cherish his memory include his children with his wife Betty, daughters, Katherine Yerkes of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary Jo Barnum of Ashtabula, Ohio, Mary Jane (David) Duffel of Troy,  Texas, Rosella (Albert) Stevenson of Jefferson, Ohio and Colleen Baldwin of Beloit, Wis.; with his second wife Delta Kaye, step-children, Marie Schulz, Allen Jewett and David Smith, all of Ashtabula, and Alison Smith of Hanover, Pa.; with his third wife Goldie, step-daughter, Catherine Sessions of Hutchinson, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
