CONNEAUT — Michael Patrick Speer, 39, of Conneaut, Ohio, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, July 23, 2013, at his home of a probable coronary.
Born June 2, 1974, in Conneaut, he was the son of Arthur M. and Jeannie L. (Eaton) Speer. Michael was a 1992 graduate of Conneaut High School, and held his B.A. degree in Communications and his M.A. degree in Library Science from Kent State University. While in high school, he received numerous sports awards.
He had been employed as a reference librarian in the Collier County Library in Naples, Fla., and was transitioning to Johnson City, N.Y., to be the director of Your Home Town Public Library when his death occurred.
A huge sports fan, Michael was a member of the “Browns Backers”, and enjoyed fantasy football, fantasy Nascar, and the Cleveland Indians. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, and also enjoyed soccer, and being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Gamble) Speer, whom he married July 9, 2010; his parents, Arthur and Jeannie Speer of Conneaut; his maternal grandparents, Gil and Juanita Eaton of Conneaut; his sister, Heather L. Speer; brother-in-law, Timothy Hudson; a niece, Libby Hudson; his in-laws, Alan and Susan Gamble of Englewood, Fla.; sister-in-law, Maria Luedeke; brother-in-law, Scott Luedeke; nephews, Chris, Mike and Jason Luedeke; and several cousins, aunts and uncles, and more distant relatives.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lina and A. J. Speer; his maternal great-grandmother, Vivian Church; and his paternal great-grandmother, Margaret Speer.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the family home, 548 Mill St., Conneaut, any time on Friday, July 26th.
