Harry W. Cotton

ASHTABULA — Harry W. “Dutch” Cotton, age 78, of Zima Dr., Ashtabula, died Monday morning, May 20, 2013, at his residence following a short illness.

He was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Geneva, the son of the late Harry G. and Helen M. (Phelps) Cotton and had been a resident of this area all of his life.  Dutch was a 1953 graduate of Austinburg High School, following graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. On August 16, 1958, he married Barbra A. Maynard at the Harris Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ashtabula.

Mr. Cotton was a member of Brick Layers Local #42 and was employed with Buckeye Masonry for more than 30 years. He was a very involved member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. His enjoyment time included raising homing pigeons, riding bicycles, wood carving, raising and showing his Boxer dogs and attending all of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a very skilled basketball player, in his high school days at Austinburg and while in the Army. In 2012, he was honored by being inducted into the Ashtabula County Basketball Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Barbra; two children, Randall T. (Sally, “Roni”) Cotton of Ashtabula and Pamela J. (Greg) Bloom of Jefferson; six grandchildren, Ryan T. (Jessica) Cotton, Lindsey M. Cotton, Brent R. Cotton, Taylor E. Cotton, Kara L. Bloom and Troy S. Bloom; three great-grandchildren, Dylan M., Abigail S. and Ryan T. (R. J.) Jr. Cotton; two sisters, Betty Gochneaur of Medina and Dorothy (Lenny) Delac of Olmsted Falls; and a brother, Kenneth (Pat) Cotton of Conneaut.

Funeral Services will be held 12 p.m., Friday, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1342 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, with the Rev. Quincy Worthington officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.

Calling Hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula and Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of Service, at the church.
