FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — James “J.R.” L. Richards, a resident of Fort Myers Beach, Fla. since 1974, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Joanne's House in Bonita Springs, Fla.
He was born August 10, 1929, in Ashtabula, Ohio. After high school and at the young age of 21, he was employed by Standard Oil Company managing one of their largest Service Stations in Ohio. Jim and two of his brothers opened and operated three service stations in the Ashtabula area for fourteen years. Jim was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was very active in the Elks Club of Ashtabula and served as Exalted Ruler in 1967.
Jim spent his retirement years helping to raise grandkids, studying and investing in the stock market, growing palm trees and many other plants. He loved working outside and could grow anything from seeds.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Rosemary; and children, Robert (Linda) Richards of Woodboro, Md., Ronald (Leslie) Richards, Alan (Michelle) Richards, Daniel (Cindy) Richards and Bradley Richards, all of Fort Myers, Fla.
He will be missed by all for his willingness to always help his family and others, his great sense of humor and his compassion for all things living.
A memorial service was held in the Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Chapel, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, Fla.
