OLMSTED TOWNSHIP —
Mary Fiori Laird, age 95, died Friday, April 4, 2014.
She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, in 1918, to Hannah and Peter Fiori and was the remaining survivor of six siblings. Mary graduated from Harbor High School in 1936.
Beloved wife of the late Frank E. Laird; mother of Diana (Jack) Craig, the late Katherine (Bob) Mejia, Marlea (Richard) Fulchiron, and sons, Peter and Frank (Pamela) Laird. She was the proud grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of four.
Mary raised her family in Ashtabula, and lived there until 1997 when she became a resident of Eliza Jennings at the Renaissance in Olmsted Township, Ohio.
In her youth, Mary was an accomplished tennis player, and throughout her life in Ashtabula greatly enjoyed living on the shores of Lake Erie. Mary was also a huge fan of the Cleveland Indians. A very active volunteer, she served in many community, church and school organizations including the Second Congregational Church, Girl Scouts, Civic Music Club, Readers Club, Garden Club, Child Study Club, Messiah Chorus, PTA and 40 years at the American Red Cross where she also served as a Board Member. In 1997 the Ashtabula Red Cross training room was refurbished and named in her honor by her family.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held at The Renaissance, 26376 John Road, Olmsted Township, Ohio, 44138 on Friday, May 9th, at 1:30 p.m.
A Graveside Service will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Ashtabula on Saturday, May 10th, at 11 a.m. All are welcome. Friends and family will gather at the Second Congregational Church, 319 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio following the Service.
