CONCORD TOWNSHIP — A Memorial Service for Niilo E. Joki, age 92, will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio.

Calling Hours will be observed from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the Service on Saturday at the Church.

Niilo passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013. He was a resident of Concord Township for the past 48 years.

Niilo was born in Ashtabula Harbor, Ohio, on May 8, 1921. He was a graduate of Ashtabula Harbor High School in 1939. A Veteran, he served 30 months in the U.S. Army Air Corps and graduated from Fenn College in 1952 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Fenn, he belonged to the Pi-Sigma Tau Fraternity and was currently an active member along with his wife of the Pi-Sig Diners Club.

He was employed as a Senior Design Engineer at Coe MFG. for 25 years and retired in 1988. Prior to Coe MFG., he worked for Republic Steel and Tubes in Cleveland.

Niilo was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Painesville where he served for several years as a trustee and usher. He was also a member of the Adult Bible Class for 46 years. He married Frances Scheufler of Dec. 27, 1952, at Hope Lutheran Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a council member and trustee.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Miller of Chicago, Ill.; sons, Mark (Karen) of Dover and Neil (Lisa) of Fairport Harbor; sister, Helmi Browne of Pittsburgh, Pa.; grandchildren, S.Sgt. Brian Joki, USAF, Keith, Anthony, Steven and Amanda Joki; and step-grandsons, Adam and Andrew Dreher; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis, of over 60 years; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Joki; and sister, Aune Joki.

A Private Burial Service will be at Riverside Cemetery, with Pastor Gerald Matzke officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Our Shepherd Lutheran School, 508 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077.
