Dalton E. Williams

JEFFERSON — Dalton E. Williams, age 84, of Doyle Road, Jefferson, died late Wednesday evening, August 11, 2010, at Jefferson Healthcare Center, where he had been a patient the past two months.

He was born May 24, 1926, in Milroy, W.Va., the son of Oley and Retha (Ware) Williams and had been a resident of Jefferson since 1963, coming from Jane Lew, W.Va. Mr. Williams was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was married to Opal I. Dennison, the love of his life, on June 25, 1948, in Weston, W.Va. and was a wonderful Christian man, dad and husband.

Mr. Williams was a 25 year employee of Reliance Electric, retiring in 1988. He gained the nickname “Sugardale” for his love of lunch meat. He attended the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene. He was gifted in a manner that he could repair or build anything from his own instinctive knowledge. He was proud that he built his own home in W.Va. and built his daughter’s home on Doyle Road. Family, work and church was his life.

Survivors include two children, Edward L. (Cathy) Williams and Shelia K. (Ron) Headley, both of Jefferson; six grandchildren, Candy (Steve) Ellsworth, Chris Williams, Shaun (Amber) Williams, Katie Williams, Jennifer (Travis) Branstetter and Jillian (Ricky) Walters; two great-grandchildren, Brady and Ella; four sisters, Genieve Sailor of Jane Lew, W.Va., Shirley Cogar and Geranium Neeley, both of Falls Mills, W.Va. and Gertrude Gibson of Clarksburg, W.Va.; and four brothers, Charles Williams of Albuquerque, N.M., Thomas Williams of Danville, Va., Devon Williams of Cleveland and Dewey Williams of Falls Mills, W.Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Opal in 2004; and a sister, Ona Howard.

Funeral Services will be 2:30 p.m., Monday, August 16th, at the Jefferson Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 49 W. Jefferson St., Jefferson, with the Rev. Travis Branstetter, of Logan Church of the Nazarene and grandson-in-law of Mr. Williams, officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Geneva VFW Post #6846 will provide full Military Honors.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Monday, prior to the Service, at the Funeral Home.
