ASHTABULA — Robert Surbella Sr., age 89, of Ashtabula, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at University Hospital in Conneaut, Ohio.
He was born June 22, 1924, in Ashtabula, the son of Julia (Seaman) and Joseph Surbella Sr. Robert was a 1942 graduate of Ashtabula High School.
He had worked as a master mechanic at the A & B Dock Company from 1946 until 1983. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater until his honorable discharge in 1946. Robert was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish- Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his family, gardening, feeding the birds, and caring for his beloved cats.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene (Bodi), whom he married June 22, 1942; son, Bob (JoAnne) of Ashtabula; daughters, Francine (Bob) Bollman of Ashtabula and Pamela (Kevin) Bollman of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Haley (Don) Bollman, Elizabeth (Amara) Bollman, Rochelle (Andrew) Hathy, Joshua (Rebecca) Bollman, Sarah (Matt) Hickerson and Gian Surbella; great-grandchildren, Dru and Emily Hathy, Robert Browlman, and Luc Touré; he is also survived by his sister, Veronica (Nick) Caruso.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mike and Joseph Surbella; and sister, Lina Seaman.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 25th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish- Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial with Full Military Rites will be in St. Joseph Cemetery following the Mass.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 10:30 a.m. until time of Service, at the Church.
