DELTA COUNTY, Colo. — Helen V. Spangler, a resident of Delta County, Colo., passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Horizon’s Care Center in Eckert, Colo. She was 88 years of age.
Helen V. Saari was born to Carl A. and Dyyna D. (Carlson) Saari on August 31, 1924, in Conneaut, Ohio. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Ashtabula, Ohio, graduating from Ashtabula High School with the Class of 1942.
On August 16, 1980, Helen married Richard “Dick” Spangler in Jefferson, Ohio. Helen and Dick resided in Jefferson for several years before retiring to Hotchkiss, Colo., in 1990. The couple celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Spangler survives.
Helen, a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, enjoyed embroidery, needlework, golfing, playing bingo and was a crossword fanatic. She also enjoyed collecting various items and taking trips to Vegas twice a year. One of her greatest enjoyments in life was being a foster parent for more than 40 children. Helen was a member of the Rogers Mesa Woman’s Club in Hotchkiss, Colo., and Faith Lutheran Church in Ashtabula, Ohio.
Helen is survived by her husband of 32 years, Richard Spangler of Hotchkiss, Colo.; two sons, Lanny E. Arcaro and wife, Donna, of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Duane C. Arcaro and wife, Nancy, of The Villages, Fla.; one daughter, Katri A. Arcaro of Boyds, Md.; and three brothers, Herbert Saari and Raymond Saari, both of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Lloyd Saari and wife, Lynda, of Andover, Ohio. Helen is further survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Henry, William and Walter Saari; and an infant daughter, Diane M. Arcaro.
Upon Helen’s request, no services will be held.
