ASHTABULA — Anthony “Tony” Valleriano, age 85, of Thayer Ave., passed away peacefully at his home Monday, July 15, 2013, after a short illness.

Tony was born August 31, 1927, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of the late Ralph (Rocco) Valleriano and Florence Rocco. He graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1946 before entering the U.S. Army and served honorably as a Corporal in the Philippines during World War II. On August 30, 1958, he married Joanne Maouri (Acitelli) Valleriano and God blessed their marriage with two sons.

Tony worked as a Postman for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years before retiring in 1993.

He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mother of Sorrows Worship Site and was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus serving many years as the Secretary of the local Council. He also was a member of the Ashtabula Elks Lodge #208 and the American Legion Dewey-Howlett Post #103, both in Ashtabula.

He enjoyed going to McDonalds for coffee and to breakfast with family and friends, walking the Mall with his companion, making pizzelles for others, watching his grandchildrens’ sports, the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns. He loved bowling in local leagues and national tournaments for over 60 years.

Tony is survived by his sons, Michael (Cathy) Valleriano of Webster, N.Y., and Anthony “Chip” Valleriano of Shaker Heights, Ohio; sister, Carmel “Nina” Potter of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Michael “T” Valleriano and Jenna Valleriano; companion of 22 years, Eva Williamson of Berea, Ohio. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Maouri (Acitelli) Valleriano in 1990 and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, July 19th, at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mother of Sorrows Worship Site, 1464 West 6th St., Ashtabula. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday, July 18th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the ZABACK-WILLIAMS-DUCRO FUNERAL HOME, 500 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula. Additional calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
